Live Streaming Reinvents At-Home Entertainment

SNEAKY BIG Staff / 4.3.2020

Live streaming has officially reinvented traditional television. With many OTT services, websites and social platforms incorporating full-length video, streaming is the new cable. Not only is live streaming a great way to increase engagement and interaction for viewers, but it allows platforms to reach multiple audiences remotely. In today’s ever-changing landscape, many popular stations and celebrities are jumping on the trend for their events, newscasts and specials. From John Krasinski’s Some Good News to late-night hosts at home, here are a few of the streamed entertainment specials that are setting the new bar.

John Krasinski’s ‘Some Good News’

The Office’s John Krasinski is back and ready to spread some positivity with his weekly YouTube show, Some Good News. Brought to you from Krasinski’s home office, the actor dedicates each episode entirely to uplifting stories, lighthearted celebrity interviews and genuine conversations with real people overcoming triumphs. A few of the show’s highlights include a heartwarming reunion with Krasinski’s The Office co-star Steve Carell, a surprise performance from Lin-Manuel Miranda and the original cast of Hamilton and a short, but sweet, weather report from the one-and-only Robert De Niro. For all the latest episodes, visit SomeGoodNews on YouTube.

Global Citizen’s #TogetheratHome Series

Global Citizen is joining the at-home entertainment movement with its #TogetherAtHome concert series. Featuring live performances from today’s top artists including John Legend, Jack Johnson, OneRepublic, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes and more, the virtual concert series encourages people around the globe to stay home and stop the spread of COVID-19. The series is on track to debut new performances weekly and allows music fans from across the globe to listen to their favorite artists live from their own living room. With personal concerts like these, we guarantee you won’t even miss your regular, go-to concert venue…at least not too much. Visit Global Citizen on YouTube to learn more.

The iHeart Living Room Concert for America

Live-streamed concerts also made history at Elton John’s star-studded virtual event, iHeart Living Room Concert for America. Presented by FOX, the benefit concert was aired online and on TV and included a variety of big-name stars including Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, the Backstreet Boys, Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato and many more. The special payed tribute to all the first responders and local heroes on the frontlines of COVID-19, and all proceeds benefited the national nonprofits Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Hospital. Celebrities practiced social distancing in light of the virus and performed top hits live from their own living rooms, as well as encouraged viewers to participate in the pledge to stay home. Although the event has already occurred, music fans can still stream performances at iHeartRadio.

Late Night from Home

America’s favorite late-night hosts are live streaming from their attics, kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms. We have to admit – it’s just as entertaining as watching them in studio. While Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah produced new episodes of The Daily Social Distancing Show With Trevor Noah from his couch, James Corden is coming at viewers live from his garage for The Late Late Show With James Corden. Jimmy Fallon has also taken his special into the comforts of his own living room, producing mini episodes of his beloved The Tonight Show. While hosts are no longer sitting at their formal ‘news desks,’ we can’t help but tune in and enjoy their latest and greatest works. Plus, you know we’re all dying to see how our favorite stars live and are totally checking out what type of décor and home goods are in the background.
